I see reports in Github back to 2016 with people saying they can name animals. Like this: https://github.com/ChildrenOfUr/cou-issues/issues/634

However I am unable to do this, even with Pigs and Chickens that I hatch.

How do I bring up the option to name? Wouldn't it appear on the Pet/Nibble/Squueze/Hatch/etc menu?

You need a fairly high skill in Animal Kinship, which you can raise by lots of squeezing and petting and so forth. Then it appears in the menu.
