Fireflies?

I assume firefly jars are absent on purpose? Although I noticed that there are some other tools you can buy but not use. Is there a definitive list of tools that can/can't be used? I'm wondering what parts of the game I should just ignore.

Fireflies aren't able to be collected as of yet.
Some tools you will find you cannot fully make products with, such as a tincturing kit, since herbs are not available yet.
You can make powders with the beaker, however you cannot use them.
The rest of the majority of tools do work. Machines, Cauldrons, Stills, and Loomers are non useable due to either no home's or lack of fox brushing.

I get why it's a low priority, what with building and things being a long way off.
